Focus on the Funny Plus More

You think you’re just sitting around the dinner table, but really, you’re writing the script for future generations! You don’t need a big production—just the right details, a little humor, and a good setup. Here’s how to make your family stories stick:

1. Focus on the Funny

Every family has that one story—the Thanksgiving disaster when Uncle Bob got locked out in his pajamas. Those are the moments people remember. The big achievements? Sure, great. But some of the best stories come from things going
horribly wrong.

Tip: Instead of asking,
“What was a big moment in your life?” try, “What’s the funniest thing that ever happened to you?” That’s the story everyone will retell forever.

2. Forget the Resume—Go for the Quirks

Nobody remembers the generic stuff.
“Mom was a great cook.” Okay, but did she also refuse to follow a recipe because "real chefs don’t measure”? Did Grandpa refuse to eat spaghetti unless it was cut into one-inch pieces? That’s the good stuff.

3. Don’t Try to Be Nostalgic—It’s Already Built In

People get caught up in making memories sound
important, but the best stories don’t need help. If they are funny, crazy, or quirky, they will stand on their own.

Tip: Just tell the story straight. If it’s good, people will feel it.

Until next time,
