1/16/2025 What's a Legacy?A legacy isn’t what’s left in a bank account, a name on a plaque, or a dusty box of keepsakes stashed in the attic.
It’s alive and enduring. A legacy is the impact of a well-lived life—the stories, values, and connections that ripple through generations. It’s the aroma of a favorite family dish that brings everyone to the table. It’s the laugh that echoes in the memory long after it’s heard. It’s the love in a handwritten letter, the wisdom passed down in a quiet conversation, or the pride you feel when you hear someone say, “They taught me that.” A legacy is built from moments—some big, most small—and without someone to preserve those moments, the details fade over time. Picture a life as a candle’s flame. Over the years, that flame lights others—children, grandchildren, friends, and even strangers. The light spreads far and wide. But its origins can be forgotten without someone to share how that first candle was lit. That’s where storytelling becomes paramount. Back in 2012, I found myself asking the painful question, “Why did I let this happen?” My grandfather had fallen victim to the thief of time. Procrastination. He lived a long and eventful life filled with adventures, love, heartbreak, and success. Then he died. My hero. Without his life story written. I beat myself up. I’m a writer. I knew better. Why didn’t I guide him? Heck, I should have just written it myself! I know the pains of an untold story. Several years later, when my father was nearing retirement, driving home from work one day, I told myself this can’t happen to my dad. With a little convincing, I talked him into meeting with me weekly to work on his biography, and now life is all good. I sleep easy, knowing his life story is preserved. Every person’s life is a story worth capturing. Whether it’s the traditions of a family gathering, the struggles that built resilience, or the milestones that shaped a life, those moments carry a kind of magic. If you’ve ever thought about preserving the story of a loved one—or even your own story—it’s never too early or too late to start. Ready to preserve the stories that matter most? I know how much my clients benefit from my biography writing service. I get their texts; I talk to them on the phone, and all of them tell me this was the best thing they’ve ever done for their family. Over the past 15 years, some of my subjects have included homemakers, business leaders, a crop duster, a tombstone designer, a sushi roller, a Romanian immigrant, doctors, and many more. Here’s the thing—anyone can jot down a timeline of one’s life. But when it comes to telling a story that truly moves people, that’s where the magic happens. Family stories deserve more than just facts—they deserve to be felt, experienced, and remembered forever. Let’s make it happen! I’m offering you a FREE 15-minute Discovery Call—no strings attached, no pressure. Just a quick, friendly chat to see if I’m the right person to help capture your loved one’s life story—or yours.
